In 2025, for his final winter concert at Edison High School, Lisner wanted to commission a work that would showcase EHS’s remarkable auditioned Treble Choir. The French carol Bring a Torch, Jeannette, Isabella, one of Lisner’s favorites, was a natural choice, but he envisioned a version written specifically for the ensemble. After singing and falling in love with Gary Gavula’s SATB English arrangement with the Immaculate Conception Church Choir in Somerville, New Jersey, Lisner approached Mr. Gavula about adapting the work into its original French and rescoring it for SSSSAAAA voices.
