In 2026 as part of Lisner’s farewell performance at Edison High School, he chose to program James Erb’s arrangement of Shenandoah. Knowing he was preparing to leave New Jersey, where he and his wife had lived their entire lives, the work’s message of longing for one’s homeland carried particular significance. Lisner wanted a way to musically reflect on this upcoming chapter while also wishing his Edison High School Choir family well as he said goodbye. The piece became remarkably meaningful for the choir, and as a result, Lisner knew he needed to memorialize both its sound and the moment.
