Passion, dedication, and joy are the cornerstones of Josh Lisner’s musical journey. As Director of Choirs and Vocal Music at Edison High School, he leads a dynamic program that engages 150-180 students annually. Under his direction, choirs have explored challenging and diverse repertoires, including movements from Brahms’ Requiem, Fauré’s Requiem, and Reena Esmail’s Tuttarana. His ensembles have consistently achieved superior and Best-In-Class ratings at competitions, performing at prestigious venues such as the newly renovated David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center. Recognized by esteemed conductors and composers alike, Lisner’s choirs are regularly invited to participate in national and international festivals.
 
Graduating Summa Cum Laude from the esteemed Westminster Choir College, Lisner holds a degree in Music Education, where he honed his skills in pedagogy, conducting, and rehearsal techniques. His time at Westminster allowed him to perform with some of the world’s leading collegiate choirs, including the renowned Westminster Choir, Westminster Kantorei, and the Grammy®-nominated Westminster Williamson Voices, immersing himself in a tradition of excellence and artistry.
 
Recently, Lisner was honored to be selected for the highly competitive International Conductor Training Program at Cincinnati University College Conservatory of Music. In his first year as a Conducting Fellow, he engaged in intensive instruction in score analysis, studied both Bach Magnificat and Duruflé’s Requiem, and conducted movements from Bach’s Magnificat in rehearsal and performance with a professional orchestra and chorus. The following summer, he returned to further refine his craft through conducting rehearsals for Mozart’s Requiem and performing in Poulenc’s Gloria, solidifying his commitment to artistic growth and excellence.
 
An accomplished soloist and chorister, Lisner performs extensively throughout the East Coast and internationally. His notable appearances include prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, where he has had the opportunity to perform more than 20 times, as well as Lincoln Center, Verizon Hall, and Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome. As a valued member of the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir, he sings under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin and serves as a Staff Singer at Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville.
 
Mr. Lisner’s commitment to collaboration is exemplified by an upcoming joint concert with Donald Nally and the Westminster Choir, set for November. This initiative aims to provide his students with the invaluable opportunity to perform alongside a Grammy®-winning conductor and one of the world’s leading collegiate ensembles. In addition to this project, his choirs participate in seven major performances each year, including the Edison Township Choral Festival. Co-founded by Matthew Lee from JP Stevens High School and himself, this festival brings together over 300 students, along with alumni, family, friends, and community members. It fosters a strong sense of unity and celebrates artistry through music.
 
At the heart of Josh’s philosophy is the belief in the transformative power of music. He inspires his students to “Find your Voice,” cultivating a nurturing and inclusive environment that celebrates creativity, collaboration, and the pursuit of excellence. With a steadfast commitment to enriching the lives of his students and the broader community, Josh Lisner continues to push the boundaries both in and outside the classroom, leaving a lasting mark on the world choral music and music education.

Lisner happily holds the title of Director of Choirs and Vocal Music at Edison High School.  Under his leadership, students have performed challenging and diverse repertoire, have earned superior and Best-In-Class ratings, and have been acknowledged at internationally recognized venues such as David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center. Lisner graduated Summa Cum Laude from Westminster Choir College, earning a degree in Music Education, and singing in Westminster Choir. He is a member of the Philadelphia Symphonic Choir under Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Joe Miller’s direction.
