Performances that Josh is not singing\, will be removed. \nThe Philadelphia Orchestra celebrates Valentine’s weekend with spellbinding music\, beginning with Mozart’s bewitching The Magic Flute. Magic takes a darker turn in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice\, Dukas’s symphonic poem immortalized by Mickey Mouse battling demonic brooms in Fantasia. Stéphane Denève is a passionate exponent of John Williams’s endlessly creative music for the cinema\, represented here by his spookily charming Harry Potter scores. Youth and magic reappear in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les sortilèges (The Child and the Magic Spells)\, a one-act fairy tale opera with libretto by renowned French author Colette\, and featuring talent from the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. SUMMARY:Westminster Kantorei Winter Concert
DESCRIPTION:Westminster Kantorei starts the semester with its Winter Concert and the Graduate Recital of Eunbae Jeon. \nUnder the new direction of Dr. Jay Carter\, Westminster Kantorei is an auditioned chamber choir specializing in early music. Composed of graduate and undergraduate students\, the ensemble performs regularly with some of America’s leading specialists in early music\, including collaborations with the Dark Horse Consort\, Juilliard 415 and others. It was selected as a finalist for the 2014 American Prize\, whose judges stated that Kantorei is “truly outstanding\,” and described the choir as having a “finely-measured and delicate balance of voices\, and a mastery of stylistic performance practice.” \nTicket and program information TBA.
